A Moody day at Strathalbyn

THERE is a new name in form guides at Strathalbyn starting on Wednesday with Natalie Moody saddling up her first runner.

The daughter of local horseman Peter, Natalie Moody has spent her life in the industry as key member of their family business and has former local galloper Sadler's Song first-up on her home track.

"I am excited,'' Moody said.

"I can't wait for tomorrow, but I can't wait for it to be over."

"I got my trainer's licence a few months ago. I was born into the industry, I've been a licenced stablehand since I was 14 so it's something I always wanted to do,'' she said.

Saddler's Song started her career with Leon Macdonald and Andrew Gluyas, had a brief stint with John Croucher before campaigning in the top end earlier this year.

"It isn't much good having a trainer's licence unless you have a horse and I've tried to buy a few online,'' Moody said.

"She was here with John Croucher and previously with Leon, but she just couldn't handle the dirt tracks up there."

"She's been a work in progress, whatever happens tomorrow happens, I am happy with how she has come along,'' she said.

It will be a big day of celebrations at Strathalbyn for the Moody family with a race named in honour of Peter's 80th birthday, the third heat of the Simone Montgomerie/Caitlin Forrest Apprentice Series.

Alana Livesey and Hannah Edgley currently lead the series on 11 points after each winning an opening heat, while Chelsey Reynolds sits in third place on seven points.

"It's all worked out perfectly, having my first runner at Strath and also the race named after dad,'' Moody added.
