It has been a long time since the double was done. Good horses have still won it like Tralee Rose so at least note the 2024 Lord Reims Stakes (2600m) at Morphettville on Saturday.

2024 LORD REIMS STAKES - RACE HISTORY AND BACKGROUND

The Lord Reims Stakes is a Group 3 race for the stayers conducted by the South Australian Jockey Club at Morphettville.

The Lord Reims Stakes is run over 2600m under Set Weights and Penalty conditions.

The race is named after a grand kiwi stayer who won a Caulfield Cup and this race itself twice but also famously won three straight Adelaide Cups from 1987.

It was first run in 1889 and is the traditional lead up to the Adelaide Cup run over a week later.

The 2024 Lord Reims Stakes was worth $150,000 in prizemoney.

It has been run over varying distances but at the 2600m since 2004.

The Lord Reims Stakes became a Group 3 from 1980 onwards.

Eighteen times has the Lord Reims/Adelaide Cup double been done but the most recent Apache King in 2001.

Other notable winners of the Lord Reims Stakes include Auraria, Falcon Gold, Fulmen, Wave King, Moss Kingdom, Foxseal, Lord Reims, Water Boatman, Ideal Centreman, Top Rating, French Resort, Cronus, Apache King, Guyno, Signoff and Tralee Rose.

The 2023 Lord Reims Stakes was won by Highland Jakk from Stars Of Carrum and Grand Promenade.
