Cole Palmer praised Chelsea for showing “passion and courage” in Monday’s 3-2 victory over Newcastle at Stamford Bridge.
Palmer claimed his 11th Premier League goal of the season, with Nicolas Jackson and Mykhailo Mudryk also on target for Mauricio Pochettino's Blues.
Alexander Isak's tidy finish had got the Magpies back on level terms before the break, with Jacob Murphy's 90th-minute screamer not enough for Eddie Howe's men.
"We had the courage to play, which is what we need as a young team," Palmer told his club's website.
"We are going to make mistakes, so it's about going on to the next one and the next one."
Monday's game was their first in the league in front of their own fans since being booed off at the end of a 4-2 defeat to Wolves early in February, with a Carabao Cup final loss to a heavily depleted Liverpool team on February 25 doing little to lift spirits.
"We've had some difficult results recently, the cup final versus Liverpool, the game against Wolves, so to get points is vital for us," Palmer said.
"I think we showed a bit of passion and courage, winning those second balls and not getting bullied."
Big-money signings Enzo Fernandez and Moises Caicedo impressed in the middle of the park, the former claiming his first assist of the campaign when he found Palmer, whose long-range finish put the hosts 2-1 up 12 minutes into the second half.
Chelsea remained 11th in the table after their win, but former Manchester City midfielder Palmer is confident their young squad are on the right track.
"I think there is so much talent at Chelsea," he said. "The way that the manager works with us on the pitch, and the things he does with us, it's only going to get better.
"It's a project, everyone is young and everyone is trying to play well so you will see it sooner or later."
Pochettino's side have one remaining crack at silverware this season in the FA Cup, and Palmer is targeting another trip to Wembley as the team prepare for Sunday's quarter-final against Leicester.
"We're still in the FA Cup – hopefully we'll win on Sunday and get to Wembley again," the 21-year-old said.
"We'll take each league game as it comes, hopefully climb the table and you'll never know where we finish."
