Manchester City's bid for back-to-back trebles continues this Saturday as they host Newcastle in the FA Cup quarter-finals.

Winning a trophy is amazing. A season double is special. Claiming a treble is historic. But what Manchester City are attempting goes far beyond pretty adjectives.

Only two teams in the history of association football have ever claimed back-to-back trebles – neither of them come from Europe.

And to avoid any confusion, we're talking about a proper treble. League, continental and domestic cup honours only. This excludes such efforts as Man United's Carabao Cup, Europa League and Community Shield wins in 2016/17.

City's bid to re-write the history books is accomplishable. The Citizens are just one point behind leaders Arsenal in the Premier League, they're through to the Champions League quarter-finals and they're just three wins away from retaining the FA Cup.

This Saturday, Pep Guardiola's men can take another big step towards Wembley when they take on Newcastle at the Etihad.

City enter this match with a 21-match unbeaten run under their belts. What's more, Newcastle have a dreadful record in the blue half of Manchester, losing 15 of their last 16 visits.

As well as their poor record against the Citizens, Newcastle will also have to overcome their inconsistent form.

The Magpies have won three of their last seven matches and suffered a 3-2 defeat against Chelsea in their most recent outing.

Newcastle have lost some of their fear factor from last season, and it's hard to see how they can topple this determined City outfit.
