Stars on show for the Monte-Carlo Masters

The 2024 Monte-Carlo Masters will boast one of the strongest non-Grand Slam line-ups possible - the world's top 14 ranked male players are scheduled to be on the red clay of the Monte-Carlo Country Club.

The qualifying tournament is already underway, with the top eight seeds – Novak Djokovic, Jannik Sinner, Carlos Alcaraz, Daniil Medvedev, Alexander Zverev, Andrey Rublev, Holger Rune and Casper Ruud – given byes to the second round.

Sinner (3/1) is perhaps the form man in the draw having claimed the Miami Open title last month dropping just one set in six matches with victories over Medvedev and Grigor Dimitrov on his copybook.

The Italian, the Australian Open winner in January, is better suited to the hard courts having won 12 of his 13 ATP Tour titles on the surface including three this season. On the clay, however, Sinner has just a Croatia Open title to his name, in 2022.

He has reached the quarter-final of the Monte-Carlo Masters in the past two seasons, even reaching the last four 12 months ago. His record in ATP 1000 events on the clay consists of zero titles and a 19-10 record, suggesting better options are in play in Monaco.

Number one seed Djokovic (10/3) is a two-time former winner who excels on any surface, but he has yet to taste a tournament victory in 2024. The Serbian has a 36-14 record in Monte Carlo and has 11 ATP 1000 titles and three Grand Slams on the red stuff.

The clay is perhaps his weakest surface, with an 80% match win rate across 336 matches. He is in a tough half of the draw that includes Alcaraz, Ruud and defending champion Rublev.

Speaking of Rublev (20/1), the Russian has mixed fortunes on the Monte Carlo courts. Two final appearances, including last season's triumph, are coupled with five exits before the third round and a 69%-win record at the venue.

Overall, on the clay, he boasts five titles, with three finals appearances on the clay across the 2023 season

Alcaraz (15/8) is perhaps the go-to option on the red stuff, the Spaniard has two career ATP 1000 titles on clay – both at the Madrid Open and heads to Monaco for just the second time - a swift second round exit in 2022 to Rafa Nadal is his lone experience at the tournament.

He did, however, win back-to-back titles in Madrid in 2022 and 2023, his favourite of the three ATP 1000 clay court options. His career record is 13-3 across the Monte-Carlo Masters, Madrid Open and Italian Open.

Alcaraz has also claimed the Indian Wells Open title this season and reached the last eight in Miami.
