Anyone who saw Wickham Light get narrowly beaten in Launceston on Good Friday would have thought he was a good thing at his next run and that’s exactly how it panned out in the (1420m) maiden.

From barrier one, Craig Newitt took bad luck out of the equation rolling straight to the front and the hot favourite strolled home by almost four lengths.

Backed as if he was unbeatable, Wickham Light started $1.25 after opening at $1.75.

"He's still a very immature horse, still got plenty of upside, don't know whether the boys want to keep going or sell on, sometimes they want to move horses on," trainer Glenn Stevenson said.

"He was educated over at Ballarat with Henry Dwyer, they thought he was a bit immature so they sent him over to (work on) the beach and its paid dividends."

Stevenson and Newitt made it a double in the first four races when Brazen Impact heavily backed from $12 to start the $3.70 favourite led virtually all the way in the 0-62 (1620m).

"He's had a couple of niggly type things but actually his run last time was a really good run, he drew bad and couldn't get into the race, he needs a strong rider but he has to be forward and we were very confident he could get the job done tonight and the ride got the money," Stevenson said.

Brazen Impact always travelled strongly and booted clear around the home turn to win by almost 4 lengths.
