Bay of Hopes

Bay of hope for hobby trainer Narelle Webberley

Hobby trainer Narelle Webberley is hoping her 4yo Bahia Bay can break through at his ninth career start in the (1400m) maiden in Hobart on Sunday.

Bahia Bay was just behind the place getters when fifth in a similar race a fortnight ago after drawing wide and racing forward.

"I was really pleased with him, I'm just hoping he will strip a bit fitter for that last run and he can jump and get into a nice forward position. I think he likes the sting out of the ground so I would have liked a little rain, Webberley said.

"His breeding (Cable Bay x Los Skybo) does suggest that he will get a bit of ground and I think he has needed a bit of time too, he's a bit like a kid on red cordial, he gets himself a little bit worked up in the tie-up stalls but he's certainly matured this preparation.

"I'd like to think if he can get him out the 1600m and see what he can do."

From limited opportunities, Webberley has had just two wins, both with Yanosho who will be back to the track soon.

"Yanosha is the favourite, he's just had a few silly problems that have kept cropping up that have kept him away from the races but hopefully in another few weeks he should be back there."

Webberley trains just five horses, combining that with running a farm.

"We are full-time farmers and hobby trainers, enjoy having the horses, it gives us something else to think about, an expensive hobby but an enjoyable one," she said with a laugh.

Promising youngster Thespian Waters returned to 3yo company and looks a great chance to complete a hat trick of wins when he steps out in three Monotone Hcp (1200m).

The horse has been in dazzling form with a class 1 win over 1200m followed up with a class 4 win (1100m) at his past two runs, both in Launceston.

Overall Thespian Waters has raced 10 times for three wins and five placings, he will carry 59kg similar to what he has carried at his past two runs against older horses.

*Veteran trainer Gary White is hoping to for a fairytale finish to a stellar career. White has four horses entered for Hobart, his final meeting before retirement, and all four look to have a winning chance.

White will saddle-up Jehbenti in the 3yo (1200m), in the (1400m) maiden, Share The Gold in the race named in his honour and Better Than Banksy who tackles the last race of the day, a BM 60 (1200m).

White's first ever runner back in 1980 was a winner and theres a strong chance his final runner could do the same, infact I've made Better Than Banksy the best bet of the day.

First race timed for 12.35, Peter Staples will be trackside for tasracingTV.
