Former NBA talent Thon Maker will headline the Boomers squad heading to Jakarta to defend their FIBA Asia Cup title, as Matthew Dellavedova drops out of the line-up.

The former NBA champion, who will be rested for the tournament, is one of three players missing from the squad that cruised through the recent World Cup qualifiers with a 6-0 record.

Guard Jack McVeigh won't play through injury, while forward Jack White is playing NBA Summer League with the Denver Nuggets.

Maker, Mitch McCarron and Sam Froling will all play leadership roles for the Boomers, with the squad loaded with players lacking international experience.

Mike Kelly, who will coach the side through the Asia Cup, said the young talents were keen to make an impact.

"We are bringing an exciting group of players to compete for gold at the Asia Cup, we have a great blend of experience and talented young players," he said.

"I'm happy to have a lot of continuity with players, coaches and staff from our recent successful qualifiers in Melbourne."

Australia begin their title defence on Tuesday against Jordan.

Squad: Alex Ducas, Sam Froling, Thon Maker, Mitch McCarron, Sam McDaniel, David Okwera, Keanu Pinder, Tyrese Proctor, Clint Steindl, Wani Swaka Lo Buluk, Rhys Vague, Will McDowell-White.
