Moore at the treble after Point Lonsdale lands Ormonde Stakes honours

On day two of the Chester May Meeting, Ryan Moore landed a treble when guiding Point Lonsdale to success in the Group 3 Ormonde Stakes.

The versatile five-year-old was returning closer to home soil having competed in Bahrain, Doha and Meydan on his last three outings. A step up to one mile five and a half furlongs on the back of his respectable sixth-place finish in the Group 1 Sheema Classic proved no problems as Ryan Moore completed a day-two treble in fine style.

Aidan O'Brien's horse raced lazily at times but once driven into contention rounding the final turn, victory never looked in doubt as Point Lonsdale stayed on stoutly to beat Arrest by a commanding six and a half lengths.

Alsakib grabbed the bronze medal spot with Deauville Legend, who raced keenly out in front in first-time blinkers, fading back into fourth.

"We're delighted with him, as he's such a versatile horse," said Paul Smith of Coolmore.

"You could step him up for a Gold Cup or run him in something like the Coronation at Epsom or go to Ascot with him, you can do anything.

"He's a pleasure to have anything to do with. He relished that step-up in trip today so he could run in something like the Gold Cup, he's enthusiastic and just does what you tell him to do. I think he enjoyed that today, it's lovely, good ground. We'll make a plan in a couple of weeks."
