Irish Guineas plan for Hannon pair

Whilst Richard Hannon would have been disappointed not to add a second 2000 Guineas to his CV, it could be an exciting season for the Marlborough-based trainer with both the second and third, Rosallion and Haatem, aiming for the Irish equivalent.

Richard Hannon has been effusive in his praise for Group 1 Prix Jean-Luc Lagardere winner Rosallion throughout his career and the support was justified as the colt came home one-and-a-half lengths second behind Notable Speech in Saturday's 2000 Guineas.

Haatem had to settle for multiple placings behind City Of Troy as a juvenile, but had his moment in the sun when taking the Group 3 Craven Stakes in emphatic style in April. Always prominent during the Guineas under James Doyle, the colt produced another credible performance in third.

"I'm immensely proud of both horses, they ran good races and we'll have a lot of sport with them through the year," said Hannon.

"The winner is an extremely good horse, I never want to see him again, but we might take him on at Ascot around a bend and it might be a different story.

"I think on the way, they'll both go to Ireland, that's the plan."
