Minister for Racing Troy Grant today opened nominations for appointment to the board of Racing NSW.

Mr Grant said three of the seven directors of Racing NSW – Alan Brown, Kevin Greene and Tony Hodgson – have terms that expire on 18 December 2014. All three are eligible to apply for re-appointment.

“This is a great opportunity to ensure we have the best possible board for Racing NSW,” Mr Grant said.

“Expressions of interest are invited and will be open until Friday 31 October," Mr Grant said.

“The Selection Panel will be chaired by former NSW Premier and former President of the World Anti-Doping Agency John Fahey AC who was also on the Selection Panel for the last round.

“The other two members are former President and Chairperson of the NRMA Wendy Machin and Chair of the Racing Industry Consultation Group Steve McMahon.

“Going forward it is my intention to appoint the Chairs of the Industry Consultation Groups to the Selection Panels for Thoroughbred, Harness and Greyhound boards to ensure the vital link between industry and board is maintained and strengthened.

“Candidates for the Racing NSW board will be recommended based on merit and in accordance with the eligibility and skills-based criteria prescribed in the Thoroughbred Racing Act.

“Terms of up to four years can be recommended to me by the Selection Panel and I would like to see appointments of two, three and four years.

“This will ensure we are staggering the renewal and replacement of members of the board and don’t lose valuable corporate knowledge with multiple positions open at the same time.

“Successful EOIs will progress to interviews in early November with the appointments to be made by mid-December,” Mr Grant said.
