Big Field For ATC Election

The Australian Turf Club has received applications from 11 members offering themselves as candidates for the upcoming election to the ATC Board of Directors.

The four Club-appointed Directors to the Board will be voted upon by ATC Members, with a result announced at the Club’s Annual General Meeting at Rosehill Gardens on Thursday 27 November.

This vote is a separate process to the appointment of the three Independent Directors to the Board by the Minister for Racing, Troy Grant, as set out under the Australian Jockey and Sydney Turf Clubs Merger Act 2010 (NSW).

The four Club-appointed Directors will serve on the ATC Board for a term of up to four years, commencing 1 February 2015.

The four incumbent Club-appointed Directors, ATC Chairman Michael Crismale, and fellow directors Wilf Mula, Steve Grant and Bill Evans, will stand for re-election.

The 11 nominees listed in alphabetical order are: Michael Crismale, Bill Evans, Steve Grant, Charlie Henry, James Mathers, John Miller, Phillip Morley, Wilf Mula, Charles Plumridge, Julia Ritchie and Duncan Shaw.

All nominees will meet with the ATC Board’s Independent Directors, Laurie Macri and John Camilleri, to discuss their candidacy, and to confirm their eligibility, before voting papers are issued to all ATC Members.

This is part of a final checking process of applicants, and is in accordance with rules set out in the ATC Constitution and Club rules.

Australian Turf Club Chief Executive Officer Darren Pearce said the ATC Board election was the first time that ATC Members had an opportunity to vote for Directors since the merger.

“This is an important milestone, and the ATC will have an open and fully transparent process regarding all Club Director election processes,’’ Mr Pearce said.

“The ATC continues to engage respected auditor Ernst and Young to provide independent oversight in relation to this process, and Computer Share will independently action the voting procedures. ‘’
