ATC Tribute To Richie Benaud

The Board, Executive and staff of the Australian Turf Club on behalf of ATC Members have paid tribute to Australian cricketing and sporting icon Richie Benaud following his passing on April 10.

Mr Benaud, a long-time resident of Coogee, neighbouring Royal Randwick, was a former AJC and

then ATC Member since 1988, and over many years was a regular visitor to his “home’’ track.

Australian Turf Club Chief Executive Officer Darren Pearce offered the Club’s condolences to Mr

Benaud’s wife Daphne, and their families.

“With the rest of Australia and the international cricketing community, we pay great tribute to the

wonderful life of Richie Benaud,’’ Mr Pearce said.

“Whether it was on the field playing the game he loved, in the commentary box, or at the

racecourse, Richie was a very much loved part of Australian sport and the wider community.

“Richie was a valued Member of our Club, and we will miss not only his legendary commentary at

the cricket, but his great passion for horse racing.’’

The Australian Turf Club will acknowledge the life of Richie Benaud at

Royal Randwick on April 11 - The Championships Day 2, Longines Queen Elizabeth Stakes Day.
