Brisbane Racing Club has won the prestigious Queensland Business History Award for 2015 for collecting and preserving its history at Eagle Farm and Doomben racecourses.

The award was presented at the Queensland Business Leaders Hall of Fame black-tie dinner attended by more than 900 guests at the Brisbane Convention and Exhibition Centre.

The BRC heritage collection is housed in the Old Tote Museum at Eagle Farm and the Archives and Library at Doomben.

The award recognises leadership in collecting and displaying historical memorabilia including documents and sharing business history.

The BRC holds 150 years of racing administration experience gathered by the Queensland Turf Club and the Brisbane Turf Club which amalgamated in 2009 to form the BRC.

The museum showcases historical items such as trophies, artwork, books, early photos of horses, jockeys, committee members and racecourses, Queensland racing calendars, some from as far back from the 1860s and is regarded as the best of its type in Australian racing.

The Racing Museum is open by appointment and on race days. At Doomben, the Archives of historic books, papers and photographs is open every Wednesday or by appointment.

The two BRC sites are managed by the volunteer Thoroughbred Racing History Association.

In accepting the award, BRC chairman Neville Bell paid tribute to the volunteers past and current who had worked tirelessly to collect and arrange the Museum and Archives.
