Talented apprentice Travis Wolfgram has taken out the 2015-16 Racing NSW Rising Star Series, despite not riding in the final heat of the series run at Hawkesbury.

Wolfgram (34 points) held a one-point lead over Adam Sewell going into the last heat.

However, Wolfgram’s mount Happy Snitzel was a late scratching earlier in the day leaving the 21-year hoop watching the final heat unravel from the jockeys’ room.

With the points allocated – 7 for first, 5 for second, 3 for third and 1 point for competing (or being engaged for a ride) – Adam Sewell just needed to run a placing aboard Astro Miss for trainer Wendy Roche to sneak home and claim the Rising Star Series.

But Sewell could only manage fourth position after leading on Astro Miss, which handed the prestigious Rising Star Series Cup to Wolfgram who had won three heats of the series during the season.

Deanne Panya was victorious in the final heat aboard the favourite Satirical Magic.
