Moonee Valley Racing Club, in partnership with the Australian Chinese Jockey Club and the support of the Victorian Government, will host the ACJC Chinese New Year race meeting on Friday February 3.

Following on from the successful event last year, the city of Melbourne will converge on The Valley. Entry is free for all to attend and celebrate the Year of the Rooster, in what will be a cultural feast for all those on course.

This fun filled race night will combine the celebration of the most auspicious festival in the Chinese calendar with night racing at The Valley.

While the racing action will deliver excitement on the track, off-track will be a hive of activity.

Events will include traditional Asian food trucks, cultural performances including Chinese lion dancers, drummers, flame throwers and traditional and modern dance, live music from international Hong Kong singing and dancing sensation Det Dik, and a lucky prize draw for return Cathay Pacific flights to Hong Kong.

Melbourne City Football Club wil also be on course, running a soccer clinic for kids on an inflatable pitch as well as providing a fun inflatable goal shoot out and a merchandise store.

Melbourne City are also putting on a huge Chinese New Year spectacular on February 11 at AAMI Park in their game against Brisbane Roar.

At the conclusion of the night there will be a massive fireworks display, which the Chinese believe is used to ward away evil for a prosperous year ahead.

Hong Kong based jockey Matthew Poon wil be riding on the night as well as Mandarin race caller Jamie Pi calling all of the races on the card.

Race 6 will be broadcast in Mandarin across the entire racecourse and every horse with the number 8 will wear a special red saddlecloth.
