Brisbane Best - Doomben - July 7

There will be one eye on the weather at Doomben on Saturday with the track currently in the slow range with more rain on the way.

Miss Iano
Miss Iano Picture: Racing and Sports

Following what was a terrific winter carnival, Doomben will host a very competitive nine race programme on Saturday with our best bet coming in the Madame Wu Benchmark 80 (1200m).

Miss Iano has been terrific since coming to Brisbane and his form during the carnival in group and listed company bode well for this race back in grade today.

Winning a benchmark 85 by two lengths over this C/D three back, the Mark Webb-trained runner then went on to run a close fourth behind Epidemic in listed company and was good again last start when fifth to Invinibella in the Group 2 Dane Ripper over 1350m.

Looks well suited back to the 1200m today and also well back in grade and his recent form rates very well against his rivals in this field today.

Bobby El-Issa remains on board and from the wide draw will look to find some cover off the speed and if she runs up to her recent form she looks well placed in this company.

The resuming Qiji Phoenix is an interesting runner, resuming for new yard off a lengthy spell.

His form in New Zealand as a two-year-old was very good, including a Listed win before not measuring up on a heavy track in the Group 2 Sires’ Produce Stakes at Eagle Farm.

Gets the blinkers on for his first start with the Toby Edmonds stable but at the odds prefer to play Miss Iano.

The race prior will see a bit field line up in the three-year-old handicap (1050m) which will see Miss Exfactor looking for her third win in a row this preparation.

The Tony Gollan-trained runner has been given a slight freshen up off her last start win over 1000m at the Sunshine Coast and from just seven career outings has four wins and three placings.

Jim Byrne who has been on board all seven runs to date takes the ride again and from the wide barrier will expect Miss Exfactor to push forward and put herself in the race.

The current price of $6 looks a good each way bet for a horse with her form and if she gets even luck in the run can certainly make it three in a row.

Good luck
