Gray Has Great Expectations

A return to the turf track leaves the Stephen Gray trained Great Expectation well placed to break through at Kranji on Saturday.

Due to contest the fourth event, Great Expectation failed to salute as the even money favourite last start but still ran well when finishing second behind Mesmerizing.

While clearly no match, there was a further two-and-a-half lengths back to third and a further two lengths back to fourth.

It appears a solid piece of form and given Great Expectation was 62 days between runs going into that he can improve further on Saturday.

Since kept fresh (35 days) he finds a very suitable contest and only looks to have to hold his form to be very hard to beat.

The in-form Mark Lerner sticks aboard (24% S/R from his L50) and he should enjoy a favourable run in transit from the inside draw.

When assessing Timeform weight adjusted ratings he holds a clear edge on and is still only lightly raced.

Great Expecation has placed at both attempts over the mile and confident he is a better horse on the turf track.

Always need your fair share of luck but if he gets it, he should go very close.

The James Peters trained Sir Elton shapes as the main danger having also finished behind Mesmerizing last start.

Jumping from 1200m to the mile on that occasion, he can show further improvement and looks to get his chance with Chavez sticking aboard.

The Tim Fitzsimmons trained Super Atas wasn't disgraced in his return behind Greatham Girl and has placed in his only previous second up attempt.

Drawn well on the inside it should allow him to settle closer and he must be included in the main hopes.

Of the rest the Desmond Koh trained Golden Tiger appears the next in line following his third placing last start.

Good luck and happy punting.
