Sydney Specials: Randwick – 11th December 2021

Still in disbelief we got beat on Welsh Legend last weekend, you just don’t see McDonald that confident on the turn and not collect.

Throw in the big early price about Francesco Guardi and it wasn't a very fun weekend for the Sydney Specials.

Hoping we can bounce back this week in what looks a decent card at Randwick.

They aren't many races I'm not confident so I actually found it really hard to narrow it down.

Would get shot by the Boss for tipping in the Inglis Nursery but off what Boldinho did in the Merson Cooper it will take a very good performance to beat him.

Have banned myself from tipping in Highways or Midways but if Miss Ostend can sneak her way into the field (fourth emergency) she looks very hard to beat in the opener.

Won very well first up last preparation before bumping into Paulele and Home Affairs.

The Greg Hickman trained Travest has been rock solid in both starts back and if able to take up a more forward position from the inside draw, he too looks very hard to beat on Saturday.

Now to the listed tips - the Group 2 Villiers Stakes is the key highlight and the ever-improving Steely looks hard to beat down in the weights.

A winner of eight of his 20 starts the son of All Too Hard went out on a winning note and has continued to raise the bar having now won three of his last four.

Sure he steps up in grade but gets in very well at the weights and has the speed to take up a forward position.

Will have no concerns with the prospect of a heavy track and has no chinks at the end of a mile, something I'm not so sure about Ellsberg.

McEvoy has won aboard him previously (1/1) and with even luck he shapes as the hardest to beat.

In the final event the Chris Waller trained Brookspire looks very well placed to return to the winner's stall.

No match for Expat in her return however her performance still held plenty of merit and she should appreciate the step up in trip.

Drawn to get a much kinder run in transit and Nash should be all the better for having ridden her last start.

Rates top of her first up performance and with good improvement expected it's easy to mark her quite short.

Do respect both Dynamic Impact and Blesk, however on a heavy track she looks to have them covered.

Race 10 #5 Brookspire @ $2.80
