Randwick trainer John O’Shea heads north to Eagle Farm with a couple of runners on Saturday and looks set to make an impact.
While Saving is a good hope earlier in the program it is Southern Lad that has the ratings to win when he contests the Jobcoach Class 6 Plate over 1200m.
Southern Lad has been racing well in Sydney and was a real eye catcher at Rosehill last start, settling last before running on hard to get within 1.7 lengths of the winner.
He was a winner at Randwick before that after kicking off this campaign with three placings so has the form on the board.
Three of his four career wins have come at 1200m and jockey Ryan Maloney will be able to secure him a good run in transit from the low draw.
Provided he can find some galloping room in the straight, Southern Lad has the closing burst to finish over the top of his rivals.
Another that rates highly but offers good each way odds is One More Cast in the Brisbane Bullets Alley-Oop Handicap (1840m).
The Liam Birchley-trained gelding has been consistent this campaign with his only unplaced effort coming when a solid fifth in the Group 3 Sunshine Coast Guineas.
At his only run since then he circled the field on the turn and took over, fighting hard before going down by a nose at Sunshine Coast.
That was his first attempt at this sort of distance and from a lower draw he should secure a better run in transit.
He has the highest last-start rating in this field and offers each way appeal.
