Catalyst wins El Roca-Sir Colin Meads Trophy Listed, NZ$50,000 at Hastings, 1200m.
Fresh up from a big win in May, Catalyst continued in the same vein, clearing out over the last 200m in another impressive effort here, his second win in three starts and maiden stakes success.
He dwelt slightly at the start then rushed forward to sit outside the leader before starting the first bend.
He dropped in behind the leader from the 800m then moved away from the fence nearing the straight entrance.
Into the straight he cruised into the lead and kept increasing the lead past the 200m. To the line he was in no danger, easing down yet still clear by four lengths.
Equinox sat midfield from the 800m, moved up three wide approaching the straight and was third turning in. He tried to go after the winner but was no match, keeping on pretty well for second.
Loire was doing her best work at the finish after being midfield turning for home, getting home quite well for third from Scotch who didn't get clear air until the last 150m, finishing well on the inner for fourth.
