Kiwi Ida wins Westbury Classic, Group 2, NZ$100,000 at Ellerslie, 1400m.

Tough as nails Southerner Kiwi Ida flew when clear for her 14th victory and is enjoying the best form of her career. She began quite well to be midfield early but drifted a little soon after and was shuffled back even further approaching the 600m.

Buried in traffic starting the run home she did not get clear until the 250m, balanced then drove home strongly the last 100m to get the decision by a half length.

Volpe Veloce was back and wide from the 800m, went forward to be handier inside the 600m and went four wide turning in. She challenged at the 250m, co-led briefly at the 100m but could not hold out the winner.

Rondinella tracked Volpe Veloce into the straight and maintained a solid finish, doing her best work late to nab third. Santa Monica  raced round them into third at the 600m, co-led at the 300m, led on her own to the 100m before fading slightly to fourth.
