Morphettville Races Review on 4th May 2024

Little known trainer on the Australian racing scene Trevor Day was all smiles when his six-year-old gelding Tullaghan won the 2004 metre opening race at Morphettville on Saturday.

The Jeffrey Maund ridden New Zealand bred Tullaghan  came with a strong run from the back half of the field to win.

Top rider Todd Pannell got his day off to a good start when Geminga took out the 1050 metre second race.

A former Victorian trained galloper now in the care of Gary Boyce and resuming from a spell Geminga was seen running on from a midfield position to record a good win.

Top Australian jockey Blake Shinn tasted victory when his mount Classy Kenny took out the 1050 metre third race.

Being under the care of Murray Bridge trainers John Hickmott and Carina Riggs Classy Kenny was another winner who came from well back in the field and may have earned himself a trip to Swan Hill to run in the Topaz during the Swan Hill Carnival.

A former Tony and Calvin McEvoy runner the Darren McLeod trained East Indiaman led all the way.

Having the services off Kayla Crowther Sir Kingsford lived up to his previous winning start when he took out the final of the Provincial Pathways Final which was run over 1800 metres.

Being under the care at Gawler by Gary and Nichole Searle and Briana Callahan Sir Kingsford led all the way.

Making her race record read three wins from seven starts the last start winner Poifect took out the listed Adelaide Guineas which was run over 2600 metres.

Ridden by Michael Dee and trained by Ben, Will and JD Hayes Poifect got to the lead soon after the start, going on to win.

Murray Bridge trainers Dan Clarken and Oopy MacGillivray were delighted with the win of The Map in the Group 3 Queen Elizabeth 11 Cup of 2500 metres which is registered as the Port Adelaide Cup.

Ridden by Jamie Kah The Map came from a worse than midfield position and began her winning run at the 600 metre mark.

Jamie Kah created her own piece of history when she won the SA Derby, her first Group 1 victory in her home state, which was run over 2500 metres.

Prepared at Ballarat by Tony and Calvin McEvoy Coco Sun was well placed and is likely to contest the Queensland Derby which will be run over 2500 metres next month.

Todd Pannell finished the day as the top rider with three winners when he saluted the judge on Delightful Shecky  in the 1200 metre SA Sprint Series Final which was run over 1200 metres.

Being under the care of duel license holder Dylan Caboche and winning his third race in a row Delightful Shecky raced in the first three throughout the event.
