Sydney forward Tom Papley has no case to answer after the AFL threw out his match-day report for forceful front-on contact against Josh Dunkley.

Papley made head-high contact with Dunkley as the Bulldogs midfielder was bending over to pick up the ball during the third term of Friday night's SCG clash.

Footage of the incident was assessed by the league's match review officer.

"It was determined by the MRO that Papley was contesting the ball and it was reasonable for Papley to contest the ball in that way," the league said in a statement.

"No further action was taken."

The decision means Papley is free to play against top-eight rivals Fremantle at Optus Stadium in round 18.

The speedy forward had 24 disposals and kicked 2.5 in Sydney's 53-point thumping of the Bulldogs, playing out the match with a sore right shoulder after landing heavily on it.
