GWS defender Isaac Cumming admits his side must produce a big improvement when they battle Brisbane on Saturday after a flat showing against Port Adelaide.

GWS defender Isaac Cumming says his side will be out to win for injured veteran Phil Davis when they host Brisbane at Manuka Oval on Saturday afternoon.

Davis ruptured his hamstring in the Giants' 55-point loss against Port Adelaide last weekend, in just his third game back after returning from a similar injury.

The brutal injury has ruled him out for the season, and put the 31-year-old's career in jeopardy.

But while winning for the club's "very loved" inaugural captain, Cumming said an improved display was necessary to make a statement for the club in general, after managing just three goals in the poor Power loss.

"For him, but just the whole football club, our fans, for everyone," he told reporters.

"We had a disappointing week last week so a win this week would pay tribute to a lot of people.

"It hurts, he came back from that same injury and to do it again, I couldn't imagine what he's going through.

"Phil is a leader of the club, he's a very loved bloke at our footy club, so everyone's behind him."

While they lose Lachie Whitfield and Adam Kennedy to injury along with Davis, the Giants have some handy reinforcements with Jacob Hopper, Connor Idun and Jake Riccardi back in the line-up.

Brisbane lose Marcus Adams to injury and Oscar McInenerney from health and safety protocols, but regain Harris Andrews, Noah Answerth, Keidean Coleman, Daniel McStay and Callum Ah Chee from the club's widespread COVID scare.

While the Giants are truly playing for pride, the fourth-ranked Lions (11-5) need victory in the nation's capital as clubs queue up behind them to try and take their top-four spot from them.

Those clubs include Carlton (11-5), Collingwood (11-5) and Sydney (10-6).

Meanwhile, Cumming encouraged Hopper to turn his back on outside clubs and re-sign with the Giants as interest in the young gun midfielder heats up.

Hopper is contracted until the end of next year, but it's reported Geelong, Richmond and Adelaide are among the suitors for a potential trade as soon as this October.

"Each player has their own different carrots dangled in front of them, but at the end of the day, we want players to stay at our footy club," he said.

"Blokes like Hopper who obviously have a pretty big decision to make, it's up to them and their managers, but we hope he sticks around for sure."
