Collingwood have pipped Adelaide by five points to celebrate captain Scott Pendlebury's 350th AFL game.
Collingwood's youngest player Nick Daicos is being lauded for an all-time classic which ensured his club's oldest player celebrated a rare AFL milestone with a win.
Daicos' stunning debut season hit fresh heights as Collingwood marked captain Scott Pendlebury's 350th AFL game with a five-point comeback victory over Adelaide.
The Pies came from 16 points down late in the third quarter to prevail 14.7 (91) to 13.8 (86) at Adelaide Oval.
The Magpies have now won eight consecutive games - five of them by single-digit margins - and their latest triumph wouldn't have come without Daicos' sheer brilliance.
Daicos' 40 disposals featured three goals, 10 intercept possessions, five inside 50s, eight rebound 50s and he also laid five tackles.
After dominating in defence, the 17-gamer was switched into attack and promptly booted the first two goals in the final quarter to give the Pies a lead they clung to for the rest of the game.
"A first-year player - unbelievable," his coach Craig McRae said.
Adelaide coach Matthew Nicks, asked if he had seen a finer game from a first-year player, simply replied: "No."
Aged 19 and Collingwood's youngest player on Saturday, Daicos' excellence inspired the Magpies to honour their 34-year-old skipper Pendlebury, their oldest player.
"All year we have had this mantra of honouring the jumper," McRae said.
"Today, the message was honour Pendles, the guy that has worn the jumper more than any other person in the history of our club."
Pendlebury was influential, collecting 28 disposals and kicking a crucial goal.
The Pies twice were in serious trouble in wet weather against the unfancied 15th-placed Crows.
Adelaide led 19-0 - a game-high margin - in the first quarter; and by 16 points late in the third term.
But a Pendlebury goal on the run reduced their margin to three points at three quarter-time.
Daicos then capped his best-afield performance with two quick goals to open scoring in the last quarter.
The Pies appeared assured of victory when 16 points up 23 minutes into the last quarter before late goals from Adelaide's Lachlan Murphy and Taylor Walker ensured a frantic final few minutes.
Walker was superb, kicking five goals, while his teammate Rory Laird broke the AFL's record for most tackles in a game.
Laird logged 20 tackles, bettering the previous benchmark by one, but the Crows remain in the mire with just five wins - and only two victories in their past 11 games.
