Carlton's Will Hayes cops two-match ban

Carlton's Will Hayes has copped a two-match AFL ban for his tackle that concussed Geelong midfielder Sam Menegola.

Carlton's Will Hayes has been suspended for two AFL matches for a dangerous tackle, but a kneeing report against Richmond's Toby Nankervis has been thrown out.

Hayes tackled Geelong utility Sam Menegola to the ground after not realising his opponent had already lost control of the ball.

Although the tackle didn't appear to be malicious, Menegola's head struck the ground and he had no way of protecting himself, an action that ensured the match review officer handed Hayes a two-match ban.

Menegola had to be substituted out of the match.

The incident was assessed as careless conduct, high impact and high contact.

The match-day report laid against Nankervis for kneeing North Melbourne's Flynn Perez was dismissed.

It was the view of the MRO that Nankervis' actions did not constitute a reportable offence.

Geelong forward Jeremy Cameron was slapped with a $1000 fine for making careless contact with an umpire.

Collingwood's Beau McCreery was handed a $2000 sanction for striking Adelaide's Patrick Parnell.
