Gold Coast coach Stuart Dew says nothing has changed in his AFL club's pursuit of Izak Rankine's signature, stating his best football lies at the Suns.

Gold Coast coach Stuart Dew insists his AFL club is the place for emerging star Izak Rankine to play his best football amid reports the 22-year-old's future might lie elsewhere.

Dew previously indicated out-of-contract Rankine was close to penning an extension with the club amid a career-best 27-goal season, but the situation appears to be shifting with Adelaide said to have offered him a five-year, $4 million deal.

Quizzed on Wednesday on whether Rankine was slipping through the Suns' fingers, Dew said the club was not fazed by the speculation.

"We've said all along we're confident that this is the place for him to live and play footy, and that hasn't changed from our end," he told reporters.

"We're a fair way away from the end of season, decisions being made, but we're aware he's got a decision to make, as have a number of guys.

The 47-game Sun is from Adelaide and looks a perfect fit for the young Crows' outfit that's won just seven games this campaign.

But Dew's message, to Rankine and his wider playing group, is to simply push on, despite officially falling out of finals contention.

"We never want to individualise the footy club and we'll continue to not do that," he said.

"Izak's intention is to play good footy against Geelong, he's been really firm with that and we're supporting him through it.

"At the end of the day, the young lad has clearly got a lot of attention on him so our job is to support him and get him to play his best footy."

While they won't play finals, Dew encouraged his troops to attack their clash with Geelong with full gusto, particularly addressing an alarming trend that's seen them win just one of their past nine opening quarters.

"We looked a little bit flat on the weekend and took a while to get into gear," he said.

"Obviously this week against the number one team it's paramount we don't wait until half-time or even quarter-time because they'll punish us."
