Kane Williamson has won the toss and New Zealand will bowl first against the West Indies in the first cricket one-day international at Cobham Oval in Whangarei.

It will be Doug Bracewell's first match for the Black Caps in more than a year and Williamson said he will be the team's all-rounder. Todd Astle will make his ODI debut.

George Worker will open the batting in place of the injured Martin Guptill, with Colin Munro, and Tom Latham will keep wicket and likely bat at number five.

Lockie Ferguson's battle with West Indies superstar Chris Gayle will be a feature of the opening overs.

The West Indies XI, meanwhile, is almost unrecognisable from that which was swept 2-0 in the Test series.

Only captain Jason Holder, Shimron Hetmyer and Shai Hope were involved in the Test series, won 2-0 by New Zealand. Right-arm fast-medium Ronsford Beaton will make his Windies debut.

New Zealand: Kane Williamson (capt), Colin Munro, George Worker, Ross Taylor, Henry Nicholls, Tom Latham, Doug Bracewell, Todd Astle, Tim Southee, Trent Boult, Lockie Ferguson.

West Indies: Jason Holder (capt), Chris Gayle, Evin Lewis, Shai Hope, Shimron Hetmyer, Ronsford Beaton, Shannon Gabriel, Jason Mohammed, Ashley Nurse, Rovman Powell, Kesrick Williams.
