NSW are 2-33 after bowling Queensland out for 193 on day one of their Sheffield Shield game at the Gabba.

Usman Khawaja's prolific run-scoring has continued with a fighting half-century as Queensland's batsmen struggled against NSW in their Sheffield Shield match.

Khawaja top-scored with 63 as the Bulls were bowled out for 193 on Wednesday's opening day at the Gabba.

NSW were 2-33 at stumps with Bulls paceman Mark Steketee taking both wickets.

After NSW won the toss only three of Khawaja's Queensland teammates reached double-figures, with Marnus Labuschagne making just eight.

Blues paceman Chris Tremain was the pick of the bowlers with 3-26 from 17 overs.

Hayden Kerr (2-41), Jack Edwards (2-17 from 10 overs) and Tanveer Sangha (2-17) were other multiple wicket-takers.

Khawaja, who opened the innings, has now made two Test centuries, two Shield tons and four Shield half-centuries this summer.

The left-hander struck six fours in his 155-ball innings, with Sam Truloff (37), Michael Neser (24no) and Matthew Renshaw (12) the only other batsmen to reach double figures.

Test ace Labuschagne was adjudged lbw when not offering a shot to an off-cutter from Trent Copeland (1-47).

The ball brushed Labuschagne's back pad and he was clearly upset to be given out, indicating he believed the ball would have travelled over the stumps before shaking his head when trudging off.

With Khawaja the mainstay, the Bulls moved to a relatively solid 4-140 before his knock ended just before tea when he edged a loose driving attempt to first slip.

The Queenslanders then lost their last six wickets for just 53 runs as Kerr and Sangha cleaned up the lower order.

But the Blues' innings stumbled early when Steketee took 2-6 in a six-over spell - the quick dismissed Ryan Hackney for a duck and Jason Sangha for 14.
