Australians Glenn Maxwell, Marcus Stoinis, Ellyse Perry, Alyssa Healy and Amanda Jade-Wellington have been retained to play in England's Hundred.

Australian T20 World Cup winners Glenn Maxwell and Marcus Stoinis have both been retained by their English franchises for this season's second running of the controversial Hundred.

Australian women Ellyse Perry, Alyssa Healy and Amanda Jade-Wellington were also retained by their teams as the eight-team competition looks forward to actually fielding the overseas players this northern summer.

COVID-19 restrictions last year meant both men's and women's competitions were almost entirely populated by domestic players with overseas stars forced to withdraw.

Maxwell will play for Lord's-based London Spirit, who finished bottom in 2021.

Stoinis will play for Southampton's Southern Brave, last year's champions, alongside England paceman Jofra Archer and BBL run-maker James Vince.

Perry will play for Birmingham Phoenix alongside New Zealand captain Sophie Devine while Alyssa Healy will be at the Northern Superchargers, who play at Leeds, and Amanda Jade-Wellington with the Brave.

David Warner, Adam Zampa, Aaron Finch, Meg Lanning, Beth Mooney and Nicola Carey were among the international stars not retained.

Men's players who have not be retained will go into The Hundred draft on March 30 while women's players who have not been retained are free to be signed by other franchises.

The 2022 Hundred starts with a men's fixture between the Brave and Welsh Fire at Southampton on August 3 while the women commence on August 11 -- after the Commonwealth Games in Birmingham in which there is a women's T20 competition.

The final of the 100-ball tournament, the creation of which has fiercely divided opinion within the English game, will be at Lord's on September 3.
