Trevor Bayliss is poised to take over from the late, great Shane Warne as coach of the London Spirit team in English cricket's The Hundred tournament.

Australian Bayliss is reported in the English media to have been offered the job on an interim basis for the second edition of the novel event following Warne's death from a heart attack at the age of 52 earlier this month.

It means Bayliss, who oversaw England's white-ball transformation as coach from 2015 to 2019, will restart his the partnership he enjoyed with Eoin Morgan, who captained the World Cup-winning team.

Warne, was Spirit's coach in The Hundred's inaugural season in 2021 but it proved a rare disappointment in his glittering career as the Lord's-based franchise finished bottom of the eight-team table.

Warne's state funeral will be held at the MCG on Wednesday and, as a result of English cricket's deep respect for the great spinner, the date for the Hundred's draft was pushed back until next Monday instead.

Bayliss has been busy since leaving the England job, having two seasons overseeing Sunrisers Hyderabad in the Indian Premier League and also coaching Sydney Thunder in the BBL.

His name has also been mentioned in connection with replacing Justin Langer as Australia's head coach.

At London Spirit, Bayliss will not just be working with Morgan as his captain but will also have at his disposal the allround skills of Glenn Maxwell, who's been retained.
