David Warner kicked off his swansong from test cricket with a bang, as his superb 164 put Australia in a great position in the first test against Pakistan.

Spectators in Perth witnessed a stunning innings from Warner, as he knocked the Pakistan attack around the park in a knock which included 16 fours and four sixes.

Warner, 37,  who announced earlier in the year that this series would be his last in Test cricket, leapfrogged Michael Clarke and Matthew Hayden into fifth place on Australia's all-time Test runscorers list.

His 164 brought his tally up to 8,561 and was his seventh score of over 150 in the longest format of the game.

Warner's 26th Test century came off 125 balls but was eventually undone by some short deliveries from Pakistan debutant Aamer Jamal, and was caught by Imam ul-Haq.

Usman Khawaja, who was wearing a black armband after being barred from making an on-field show of support for Palestinians, made 41 and Travis Head added 40.

Jamal was the pick of the Pakistan attack with figures of two for 63.
