Australian golfer Su Oh has made a blazing start to share the first-round lead at the Honda LPGA Thailand following a flawless nine-under-par 63.
Su Oh has upstaged a star-studded field, including in-form fellow Australians Minjee Lee and Hannah Green, to grab a share of the first-round lead at Honda LPGA Thailand.
Oh carded a flawless nine-under-par 63 to share first-day honours with Japan's Nasa Hataoka and German Esther Henseleit.
"It was really nice. I don't think I've ever shot nine under before," Oh said.
The 25-year-old Oh, a great mate and travelling companion of major-winning fellow West Australian stars Lee and Green, made a brilliant start and never looked back on Thursday.
She birdied the 10th hole, her first of the round after starting on the back nine, and picked up eight more shots without posting a bogey.
Having played the event three times previously without any joy, Oh said she arrived in Chonburi with "zero expectations".
"Maybe that's why (I played so well)," she said,
"I know this golf course. You kind of have to hit it long, like it's a long hitter's course, so I literally tried to hit it really hard off the tee on every shot.
"I actually didn't drive it that great, but it wasn't bad clearly. You don't really have to be that straight here. You can just hit it really far, and then you have such a big advantage.
"So I just tried to hit it pretty long."
Oh has yet to win on the LPGA Tour but has shown she's close to a breakthrough in recent weeks.
She was the leading Australian for much of last week's HSBC Women's World Championship in Singapore before Lee flew home with a 63 of her own on Sunday to share second spot behind world No.1 Jin-young Ko.
Lee's blistering finished vaulted her to fourth in the rankings, the reigning Evian Championship winner's highest standing since reaching world No.2 in 2019.
Green, chasing her third win from as many events, tied for sixth in Singapore to continue her impressive start to 2022.
But the superstar pair are playing catch-up to Oh this week.
Lee is tied for 34th after a three-under 69, with Green one shot further back sharing 42nd spot.
