With the Ryder Cup now distantly in the rearview mirror, the world's best golfers are returning to the weekly grind of the PGA Tour, with American Xander Schauffele (9/1) the headline name in the field for the event at China's Narashino Country Club.

Also in attendance from the US Ryder Cup squad will be Collin Morikawa (11/1) and Rickie Fowler (16/1), while Nicolai Højgaard (40/1) is the lone representative from the European side. The tournament boasts 16 of the top 50 in the World Golf Rankings.

The Narashino Country Club hosts a 7,079-yard, par 70 course which ranks 31st out of 53 on the PGA Tour's course difficulty order. This week's tournament is the fifth in the event's history, with Keegan Bradley, Hideki Matsuyama, Patrick Cantlay and Tiger Woods claiming victory in earlier iterations – a star-studded list.

The Ryder Cup stars head the betting for the tournament, with world No 6 Schauffele a possible contender. The American boasts a strong all-round game, he's third on the PGA Tour in shots gained (1.869), third in shots gained on approach to the green (0.880), fourth in shots gained putting (0.667), sixth in score average (69.00 per round) and eighth in birdie average (4.27 per round).

His one weakness is his long-range game, lacking drive distance and consistency on approaches from 200-yards or more. He has, however, finished top 20 in five of his last PGA Tour events, and has been top 20 in all four majors in 2023. With a field lacking a full selection of star names, a top 10 finish should be achievable (21/20).

Defending champion Bradley (20/1) was left out of the Ryder Cup squad and will have a point to prove. The American is another all-rounder, who is a perhaps a tier below Schauffele on statistical analysis. He sits around the 20s in terms of shots gained, average score and putting, but has struggled in 2023 in his play around the green, ranking 139th in Scrambling, 140th in sand save percentage and 167th in scrambling from the rough.

Bradley has been hit and miss in his last seven PGA events – two top 10 finishes, including victory at June's Travelers Championship, two missed cuts, and three performances outside the top 20.

Morikawa will be another contender. He's second on the Tour in shots gained on approach, third in driving accuracy, third in greens hit in regulations, fourth in proximity and is 12th in scoring average. He does, however, let himself down in the putting department, ranking 112th in shots gained, 112th in putts per round and 122nd in one-putt percentage.

The American has perhaps been the most consistent of the lead contenders. He's finished top 15 in three of his last five PGA Tour events, but it's hard to trust his putting stats.

Chinese Taipei's Kevin Yu (125/1) may be a longer odds bet to punt on. He's second on the PGA Tour in hitting greens in regulation (72.79%), fourth in shots gained of the tee, fifth in total driving and 20th in drive distance. His weakness, like Morikawa, is around the green. He's 167th in scrambling, 166th in sand save, 177th in putts per round and 170th in one-putt percentage. He's 14/5 to finish in the top 20.
