Aussie Para sit skiers ready to face off

Paralympic sit skier Sam Tait has moved on from crashes in the downhill and Super G and can't wait to race fellow Australian Josh Hanlon in the giant slalom.

Para alpine skier Sam Tait will welcome some friendly competition from fellow Australian Josh Hanlon in the giant slalom as he looks to move on from two early crashes in Beijing.

Hanlon, 24, kicks off his debut Winter Paralympics campaign in Thursday's giant slalom, where he'll compete against Tait in the sit skiing category.

"He's capable of a lot. I hope he surprises us and just pulls something out of the bag," Tait told AAP.

"I'm keen for Josh to get started. It's friendly rivalry, having him makes me maybe unknowingly push a little bit more.

"Because I want to beat him - I want to beat everyone - but it'll be nice to have him up there again in the start."

Tait, 30, was "gutted" when he failed to finish the downhill, his pet event, on Saturday.

After also crashing in Sunday's Super G, Tait skipped Monday's super combined event to recover and home in on giant slalom.

"It took me a while to move on from the downhill crash. That'll probably haunt me for the rest of my life, or for the next four years," Tait said.

"But it's what we do, it's our sport and we're used to going out and not finishing.

"It's alright, I've just got to put that behind me and learn from what I did well and what I did wrong and I'll be right.

"It was good for my mental state (to skip super combined) because it was tough over the last few days.

"Body and mind has been nice and reset and this morning I got some really good laps of the GS course, got some good feels on the ski and I'm ready to go."

Patrick Jensen and sighted guide Amelia Hodgson will kick off Thursday's giant slalom in the vision impaired category while veteran Mitch Gourley will compete in the standing.

"It'll be a good day for us Aussies, I feel," Tait said.
