Australia's triathlon stocks look to be rising ahead of the Commonwealth Games, with two silver medals at the World Series round in Hamburg.

Australia has won a second silver medal at the World Series round in Hamburg, the team's last competition before the Birmingham Commonwealth Games.

It's a timely boost to the six-member Australian team, which aims to rebound from a barren Tokyo Olympics.

Birmingham team members Matt Hauser, Sophie Linn and Natalie Van Coevorden were joined by Gold Coast Games competitor Luke William and they finished second in the mixed team relay behind Great Britain.

Australia won the relay event at the 2018 Games.

The mixed relay podium finish came a day after Hauser also won silver in the individual triathlon, confirming he is a medal prospect at the Birmingham Games.

Van Coevorden, who will make her Games debut at Birmingham, anchored the team with a fast finish after she was forced out of the individual women's race with a bike problem.

Great Britain won in one hour 20 minutes 50 seconds, 13 seconds ahead of Australia, and Germany took third with 1:21:10 after they had to serve a 20-second penalty

Hauser set up Van Coevorden with a strong leg, giving her a 12-second lead at the last changeover.

While Great Britain's Katie Waugh passed her for the win, Van Coevorden held off the German challenge.

"Luke, Matt and Sophie put me in such a good position and I knew if I stayed there we had a good chance of the podium today and I am really glad we're back and it's great to be part of such a great team," said Van Coevorden.

"Australians are really persistent and we never give up as we showed today ... and hopefully we can lead this towards Paris (2024 Olympics).

"We have many, many good athletes to lead us with a great team and I am really proud of everyone today."

The Australian triathlon team disappointed in Tokyo, failing to win any medals for the second successive Olympics.
