Night matches on deck in new NRLW fixture

The 2022 NRLW fixture has been released, including marquee Sunday night matches and a string of men's-women's double-headers.

Night matches are on the menu for the first time in the NRLW's 2022 fixture.

Round one kicks off on August 20 - just four months after the rescheduled 2021 campaign wrapped up - with Newcastle and Brisbane's clash the following day the inaugural women's night game.

There'll be a Sunday night contest in every round, creating a marquee fixture slot with none of those games clashing with NRL matches.

Round one also includes Parramatta and Sydney in a derby, while St George Illawarra and Gold Coast will complete a men's-women's double-header in Wollongong.

Matches will work in with NRL finals in round four to create triple and double-headers on the Saturday and Sunday respectively, while round five will see a triple-header played at Central Coast Stadium.

The Dragons will look for some grand final revenge on reigning premiers Sydney at Leichhardt Oval in round three.

NRL executive Tain Drinkwater said exposing the game to maximum eyeballs was a key objective of the draw.

"We have worked hard to ensure every club has exposure to their own fans, while also giving the right mix of men's and women's double-headers, a triple-header, as well as stand-alone fixtures," she said.

"We have a base of 30,000 registered female players which is ensuring growth at all levels of the game, and a strong foundation for the NRLW competition to continue its progression."
