Members of Brisbane's 1992 premiership side have celebrated as the NRL club's rebuild went to new heights with a win over St George Illawarra.
Inspired by the Brisbane greats in attendance and wearing a jersey that was a reminder of a golden era, the Broncos have offered their champion past a glimpse into the future.
A 32-18 win over St George Illawarra came with 13 of their top-30 unavailable and on the day they celebrated their maiden 1992 NRL premiership.
Coach Kevin Walters couldn't help but get nostalgic as the depleted side overcame some heavy treatment of star man Adam Reynolds to put on a show at Suncorp Stadium.
"The old boys would give anything to run back out in this particular jersey," he said, grabbing the white collar on Reynolds' retro kit.
"We had our day in the jersey, great times, won premierships. But Adam and his team now coming through have the same opportunity to get to wherever they want to get to.
"When you run past old boys of the club (onto the field), for me it's very inspiring.
"Our boys here tonight did them proud with our performance."
The up-tempo football came without a host of big names, new faces 24-year-old debutant Zac Hosking, fit-again teenager Xavier Willison and two-try winger Delouise Hoeter among the feel-good stories on Sunday.
Victory was Brisbane's 10th this season and sixth consecutive at home, snapping at two-game losing streak and all but ensuring they'll play finals again.
It's a dramatic resurgence after 7-17 and 3-17 seasons saw them finish 14th and a historic last in 2021 and 2020 respectively.
"I wasn't really sure on where we'd end up, but I knew we had some really good signings, one of our best signings in the last 'how long' with Adam, Kurt (Capewell) and Ryan James," second-year coach Walters said.
"Those three have been real shining lights, dragged everyone up to a level where the Broncos should be.
"I had a look at the rounds, after round 15 last year we were last. This year sitting fourth and now back up to fifth.
"Again, there's a lot of work in front of us so we'll enjoy tonight, go back to the club, mixing in with the other (1992 premiership) boys.
"There's a few tough old heads in there, so we'll see how we go."
