Parramatta coach Brad Arthur has been impressed by Reagan Campbell-Gillard's ability to ignore his State of Origin omission and lead the Eels' forward pack in the 28-20 victory against the Wests Tigers.

Campbell-Gillard was dropped from the NSW Blues side after game one despite a solid individual performance and was overlooked for a recall ahead of the decider when injury struck both Payne Haas and Jordan McLean down.

NSW coach Brad Fittler has chosen to hand Newcastle's Jacob Saifiti his Origin debut rather than give Campbell-Gillard another chance but the Parramatta prop gave no indication on Saturday night that the snub had weighed on him.

In the absence of Origin prop and Parramatta teammate Junior Paulo, Campbell-Gillard took on extra work.

He did not take a break until the 52nd minute and came on for a second stint as the Tigers threatened to pull off a comeback late.

Campbell-Gillard finished with 100 metres (48 post contact) and scored the try that restored belief in the Eels after the Tigers built an early lead.

"He showed how he handled (his Origin omission)," Arthur said.

"I put some some ownership and accountability on him to lead from the front.

"He really led the forwards and never looked tired at any stage. He could have stayed out there but it was a good opportunity to get some game time into some of our guys off the bench."

On Saturday night, Nathan Brown returned to the first grade side for the first time since being told by Eels management he was free to negotiate with rival clubs.

The former NSW Origin forward started on the bench in place of Ryan Matterson, who withdrew with a rib injury.

"'Brownie' got an opportunity and he made the most of it," Arthur said.

Arthur previously said Brown's relegation from first grade was due not to his possible move from the club, but rather his form and Parramatta's breadth of options in the forwards.

"It's pleasing that we've got good depth in our squad," Arthur said.

"It creates good healthy competition. It doesn't matter who goes down, someone comes in and is going to do their job. Nathan did that for us."
