Wests Tigers lock Jackson Hastings says interim coach Brett Kimmorley has earned the right to remain at the club in some capacity after 2022.

Jackson Hastings has urged Wests Tigers to keep interim head coach Brett Kimmorley at Concord as the club prepares for the first phase of its five-year coaching plan.

After Michael Maguire was sacked earlier this season, Kimmorley was promoted from Pathways and Coaching Manager to head coach, but will vacate the role to make way for Tim Sheens in 2023.

Robbie Farah and Benji Marshall will serve as Sheens' assistants, with the latter assuming head coaching duties from 2025.

But Hastings urged Tigers powerbrokers not to forget Kimmorley.

The club's junior programs have thrived since Kimmorley began his pathways role last year, with Western Suburbs winning the grand final of this year's under-17s Harold Matthews Cup and Balmain reaching the finals in the SG Ball competition.

Kimmorley also began the year coaching the Tigers' women's premiership team, who defeated Cronulla in Saturday's grand final.

The 45-year-old former international halfback admits he is unsure where he will be next season but Hastings said the stand-in coach had earned the right to remain at the club if he so chose.

"He should be here," he said.

"As a first grade squad, we're not going great but what Noddy (Kimmorley) has been able to do from the pathways to the Harvey Norman (women's side) to where we are, he is making the club a better place.

"Noddy has been a massive part of the junior success that we've had this year: Harold Matthews, SG Ball, teams like that."

Hastings said Kimmorley's decision to hand Justin Matamua, Fonua Pole and Austin Dias their NRL debuts showed his commitment to the club's juniors.

"He's brought kids through first grade and given kids opportunities," he said.

"He deserves a lot of credit. We just need every single person that's here to buy in and the club will move forward."
