Winger Tom Wright says the Wallabies are focusing on Argentina and not their coach, Michael Cheika, ahead of their opening Rugby Championship Test.

Tom Wright says the Wallabies won't be distracted by Michael Cheika chat as they prepare to meet Argentina in their Rugby Championship opener in Mendoza this weekend.

The star winger cum fullback says Australia's former coach, who took control of the Pumas earlier this year, has hardly rated a mention in the Wallabies' Buenos Aires training camp.

Cheika has had early success with Argentina, last month steering them to a 2-1 home Test series victory over Scotland.

But Wright said on Tuesday that the Wallabies wouldn't be diverted by what the wily Cheika, who had five years at the Australian helm before departing after the 2019 World Cup, brought to the table.

"No, we don't talk about it," said Wright, who made his Test debut in 2020 after Cheika's tenure ended.

"I wasn't here when (Cheika was coach) so for me personally, I don't necessarily know any of the back story that you guys continually remind everyone of.

"If we're too busy worrying about the opposition coach we've probably got our heads in the wrong space preparation-wise."

The Wallabies' match in Mendoza will be followed by a second Rugby Championship Test aginst the Pumas in San Juan a week later as they look to rebound from their 2-1 home series loss to England.

Wright said the players and coaching staff had some "harsh conversations" as they reviewed the England series before flying out to South America.

He said it was disappointing they were unable to deliver on their game plan, losing the last two Tests after a gritty win in the opening match in Perth .

"Obviously we want it to be a whole lot better in certain areas of our game," the 25-year-old said.

"We had a plan to do a few specific things game-plan wise and we weren't able to execute and that was a little bit disappointing.

"We sort of died wondering, would that have worked or not?"

Wright spent some time at fullback against England after injuries to Tom Banks, Andrew Kellaway and Jordan Petaia and was one of Australia's best through the campaign.

Banks (arm) and Kellaway (hamstring) didn't make the Argentina trip however Petaia has recovered from a head knock and is tipped to get the nod for th opening Test on Sunday (AEDT).

But Wright hopes to get another chance in the custodian role.

"If that opportunity arises again, I'll definitely take it with both hands," the Brumbies flyer said.

"It will be good to have Jordie back in the mix of selection, and we're only going to be better off for it as a team, but fullback is something that excites me.

"You get a few different looks at getting the ball in different parts of the field."
