Foran won't renege on Titans NRL deal

Kieran Foran has made clear he will not go back on his deal to move to Gold Coast next year, confirming that 2022 will be his last NRL season at Manly.

Kieran Foran has declared he will definitely head to Gold Coast in 2023, refuting claims he could backflip on the NRL club.

The Manly star inked a two-year deal with the Titans in May, with the club banking on the 32-year-old to be their saviour in the halves.

In the time since that deal the Titans have fallen to the bottom of the NRL ladder, while Foran has continued to be a key component in Manly's attack.

That prompted some suggestions from as early as June that Foran could try to go back on his Gold Coast deal, in a scenario similar to that of halves partner Daly Cherry-Evans in 2015.

But Foran categorically put those rumours to bed on Wednesday, insisting there had never been a point where he considered trying to get out of his Titans deal.

"There is no chance at all (I am staying at Manly). I will be going to the Gold Coast next year," Foran said.

"I am completely committed. I signed with the Gold Coast for two seasons and I will be honouring that deal."

Foran has a significant job to do at the Titans, with the club openly admitting they need experience in their spine after letting Jamal Fogarty go last summer.

But for now his focus is on Manly, who likely need to win four of their last five games to make the NRL's finals.

The end to the regular season could also have ramifications on Foran's close confidant, coach Des Hasler, who has performance clauses in his contract to secure his future.

A top-eight finish this season would automatically extend Hasler's contract from the end of 2023 until the end of 2024, while a non-finals finish would leave his fate to Manly's management.

Sea Eagles owner Scott Penn was adamant over the weekend that Hasler's future was not up in the air, but regardless Foran said the coach was vital to Manly's long-term success.

That was further evidenced, he said, by the way Hasler handled last week's seven-player jersey boycott and subsequent efforts to ensure unity in the squad.

"He's the heart and soul of Manly," Foran said.

"He is a hugely important part of this club. Everyone that has been coached by him loves being coached by him.

"I don't think that has changed. He has done a really good thing so far this year."
