Warriors sign new assistant coach Agar

Experienced Super League coach Richard Agar will join the Warriors in 2023 as an assistant to incoming head coach Andrew Webster.

The Warriors have signed Richard Agar as an assistant to Andrew Webster for 2023, but his arrival does not appear to force current interim coach Stacey Jones out of the club.

Agar has coached over 200 Super League games across stints at Hull FC, Wakefield and Leeds Rhinos, whom he coached to victory in the 2020 Challenge Cup Final.

He and incoming Warriors head coach Webster joined Samoa's coaching staff this year and will work with the team at the Rugby League World Cup, which begins in October.

The Warriors are hoping Agar can be a sounding board for Webster, who will leave Penrith's premiership-winning set-up to embark on his first full-time head coaching role.

"Richard has tremendous experience in top-level coaching and will add huge value to our coaching team," said Warriors CEO Cameron George.

"He'll provide terrific support for our new head coach Andrew Webster."

Agar's arrival follows news former Warriors head coach Andrew McFadden will return to the club as general manager of recruitment, development and pathways from 2023.

Jones' future at the Warriors does not appear in jeopardy despite the ongoing personnel changes.

The 46-year-old returned to the Warriors this year to work as an assistant to Nathan Brown and was appointed interim coach after Brown stepped down in June.

Jones is currently negotiating his future with the Warriors but is contracted until the end of next year and is keen to remain at the club.

"We're going through (my future) at the moment," he told reporters, "but I've still got another year left on my contract."
