Taylan May's Penrith teammates have been quick to assure the winger he was a crucial member of the premiership team, even if he didn't make it onto the field.

Taylan May's Penrith teammates have been quick to rally around the winger after injury kept him out of their premiership victory over Parramatta on Sunday night.

May established himself as a lock for selection on the left wing in his rookie season and finished the year as the reigning premiers' leading tryscorer.

But a hamstring injury suffered in the first week of the finals denied May his taste of premiership glory, with Charlie Staines joining the 17 in his absence.

Unlike in other sporting codes, only members of the winning team on grand final day receive an NRL premiership ring.

But following the 28-12 victory at Accor Stadium, May's teammates assured him he was just as much a part of the premiership team as anyone else.

Izack Tago and May's stars ascended in tandem this year as they combined for a total of 29 tries on the left.

"I just told him that it's his win too," Tago said to AAP.

"He played some of the biggest minutes of the whole team this season. He's as deserving as any of the boys."

Clive Churchill Medallist Dylan Edwards marshals the outside backs at Penrith and said he felt for May.

"There's not much you can say to him but we wouldn't be here without him," Edwards told AAP.

"He's an important piece of this team. He missed out tonight, which is sad for him but hopefully he can enjoy the next couple of days (celebrating)."

Winger Brian To'o also felt for May but said he was pleased that Staines had finally been given the chance to play on grand final day, having missed out on selection for the past two years.

"He's worked his way up and earned that spot," To'o told AAP.

"I couldn't be happier for him to embrace this grand final moment."
