Jordan Petaia will be unleashed at fullback for the injury-hit Queensland Reds against a rollicking Fijian Drua on Saturday.

Injuries to Liam Wright, Tate McDermott and Lukhan Salakaia-Loto have paved the way for Fraser McReight to captain the side for the first time at Suncorp Stadium.

The Reds (3-0) have remained unbeaten despite the injury toll, which also includes Angus Scott-Young (knee) and Alex Mafi (neck), who underwent surgery on a bulging disc this week.

Petaia's move to fullback wasn't injury-enforced though, with coach Brad Thorn eager to see his backline skills in the No.15 jumper while moving the in-form Jock Campbell to a wing.

Taniela Tupou will return to the starting side while five-eighth James O'Connor will again pull the strings in an unchanged spine after starring in a win over the Western Force in Perth.

University of Queensland's second-rower Connor Vest will potentially make his Super Rugby Pacific debut off the bench.

Eight players with Pacific Island heritage will wear their flag on the back of their jerseys to celebrate Pasifika Round, with the uniforms to be auctioned post-game to raise money for UNICEF Australia's Tongan Recovery Appeal.
