Wales are due to meet England at the Principality Stadium, Cardiff, but there is an ongoing dispute between his players and the Welsh Rugby Union.

Wales' players have threatened to go on strike over contract issues, placing the Guinness Six Nations showdown in doubt.

When asked if he was confident it would go ahead, Gatland said: "Absolutely, yeah. I'm hearing positive things from both sides.

"I'm confident that with the discussions taking place, that it will get resolved today. There have been half-a-dozen meetings over the last few days or so."

Gatland has postponed Wales' team announcement – which was due at lunchtime on Tuesday – until Thursday because of the stand-off.

When asked if he had been given assurances the round three match at the Principality Stadium would take place, Gatland replied: "Not at the moment."

Wales' players want three issues resolved before they agree to take to the field.

They want Wales Rugby Players Association (WRPA) representation at PRB meetings. They also want removal of the contentious 60-cap selection rule whereby a player plying his trade outside the country cannot be picked unless he has made at least that number of Test appearances.

And they also want the removal of Welsh rugby bosses' demands that players accept 80% in set wages with 20% available in bonuses.

Wales have lost their opening two Six Nations games against Scotland and Ireland and conceded nine tries and 69 points.

England, under new coach Steve Borthwick, began with a home defeat by Scotland before beating Italy at Twickenham.
