Western Sydney Wanderers coach Mark Rudan reckons his side have the ability to get on a run and book a place in the A-League Men finals.

Western Sydney Wanderers coach Mark Rudan says his team have what it takes to make a charge for the A-League Men finals following Sunday's goalless home draw with Adelaide United at CommBank Stadium.

After defeating the third-placed Reds in Adelaide 2-1 just four days earlier, Rudan said the Wanderers are primed to build momentum in a quest for a place in the top six.

Rudan's side currently sit in ninth place, four points behind sixth-ranked Melbourne Victory, with Wellington Phoenix (7th) and Central Coast Mariners (8th) both having games in hand on the Wanderers.

Western Sydney's next game is against the Victory at AAMI Park on Sunday.

"We believe - we believe that we can go onto a run," Rudan said.

"And we believe we can beat any team in the competition. I certainly believe that.

"We certainly believe we've got plenty of games to make a run.

"We're getting fitter, players are understanding their roles and responsibilities, we're getting (Jack) Rodwell and (James) Troisi back, we're looking pretty good."

The Wanderers dominated the early stages of both halves and camped in the Reds' defence for large parts of the match but failed to produce a breakthrough.

Rudan lamented a lack of polish in front of goal with the Wanderers struggling to find the net this campaign.

Western Sydney have scored 18 goals this season, joint second-worst with Brisbane Roar while only Perth Glory have managed less, finding the net just 13 times.

"We're working hard at that attacking third," Rudan said.

"We're getting into that area a lot, and we've just got to be better, it's a simple as that.

"It's not through a lack of trying, they're working hard.

"That little bit of quality, that cutting edge you need in the attacking third, it's got to be better.

"We get from our defensive third, through the middle third to the attacking third quite often but we just need a bit more potency, and more belief and be a bit more ruthless in the attacking third."

Adelaide coach Carl Veart echoed Rudan's thoughts about his own side, conceding the Reds also misfired in front of goal.

But, he was thrilled with the performance at the other end, particularly with the inexperienced central defensive pairing of Lachlan Barr and Alexandar Popovic.

It was a first A-League start for 20-year-old Popovic and just his second game, while Barr has racked up nine appearances for the Reds in his debut A-League season.

"The pleasing thing tonight is we didn't really give anything away either," he said.

"We made it very difficult for them, we kept a clean sheet, the first one in a while so happy with that.

"We just needed to be a bit more clinical in the front half."
