PLAYER OF THE DAY: Kaia Kanepi - at 36, the veteran Estonian finally reached the second week at Melbourne Park for the first time with a three-set third-round win over Aussie wildcard Maddison Inglis.

Oh my god." - Alize Cornet celebrated her 32nd birthday in style, fighting back against Tamara Zidansek to reach the round of 16 with a three-set win over the 2021 French Open semi-finalist.

STAT OF THE DAY: On her 10th attempt, at the age of 36, veteran Kaia Kanepi finally broke through to the fourth round at Melbourne Park and has now reached the second week of all four grand slams.

TOURNAMENT SUMMARY: World No.2 Aryna Sabalenka and 2018 Melbourne Park finalist Simona Halep are both through to the second week while Inglis' exit leaves Ash Barty as the only local hope in the women's draw. Men's title favourite Daniil Medvedev also rolled on.
