Fallen Australian tennis star Bernard Tomic has won his first main-draw match in almost a year.

Tomic advanced to the second round of the Challenger Tour event in Monterrey, Mexico with a a 6-2 6-2 defeat of fourth seed Cedrik-Marcel Stede on Tuesday.

Tomic was aided by nine double-faults from the German in securing his first main-draw victory since last year's Rome 1 Challenger on clay in April.

Once ranked 17th in the world, Tomic has spiralled to No.320 in the standings, not even good enough to make grand slam qualifying draws.
